Linaria?
« on: August 15, 2012, 11:56:11 AM »
Hi can anyone help me with this plant's name.  I think it is a Linaria, it has the spurs.  It has been flowering for many weeks but unfortunately I only took it's picture the other day.  Its about 2ft 6 in tall, many branched and is setting copious seed which I intend to send to the seed exchange if I get a name for it.

Thank you Roland,

Don't know if it is a thug 'cos I don't know where it arrived from but it's very pretty and long lasting and it won't seed about too much because I'm going to save the seed for the seed exchanges.

Who says there is no such thing as coincidence? (Apart from Sherlock Holmes ans Hercule Poirot?)

In today's Bulb Log, which Ian is just about to load online, there is a purple form of the Linaria - sppoky,  spooky or what? ;)

That's a lovely looking plant.  Presumably as a native of Italy it likes a warm sunny location?
Almost in Scotland.

Take a look at Linaria purpurea 'Canon Went'. It's a lovely thing and I TRY to keep it going in the garden. It has never acted the thug (yet...).

I do have this linaria,Canon J. Went, and also the purple and white forms.
Love these plants and have them in my garden for more than 20 years.
They do selfseed a lot but are easily removed.only young seedlings can be replanted elsewhere.
I never want to be without them.
