IRG - December 2012
« on: December 28, 2012, 05:42:22 PM »
The International Rock Gardener is a wonderful, informative E-magazine.
The post about my visit to Cluny House has pleased me particularly.
My visits to the Scottish gardens are among the most beautiful experiences in my life.
Thank  you.

Brian W. tells me that the latest IRG  risks bamboozling readers with a use of a word that while it has various meanings in English  has a more  particular Scots meaning - I refer to the use of "policies in the opening of the  December IRG. ;)

I confess I had no idea that this use of the word was a peculiarly Scots usage, with particular reference to property law and descriptions.

Policies  in this instance are the parklands of an estate or 'pleasure grounds' surrounding a property.
e.g.  It hasn't been decent weather today for a walk round the policies...... :D

See these two links for use of the word  -

Perhaps I may tease you deliberately in the future with the use of some really obscure Scots words!

Franz - it is a strength of the IRG that we have people with your range of experience and skill to draw on to build the magazine.
