Re pots, I use 9cm square larger bulbs 1 per pot, 4 for smaller, only in the pots for a few months so not too critical.

A very sandy mix is good, JI+ sharp sand is what I use & don't water at all for a weeks before chipping, just cuts down on the mess & gives you nice clean bulbs to work with.

Definitely worth thinking about the amount of sun an area gets, large flowered varieties like Mighty Atom I always plant to get plenty of afternoon sun, with heavily shaded plants the flowers look smaller & it's just nice to see them fully open for a few hours on those warm sunny days  :)

Some new toys arrived today :)

I think Eurobulbs have made a typo and it should be Green Brush, with an r.

never heard about galanthus GREEN BUSH???

Millionaire by Christmas eh?  ;D

TBH I just bought some of all the varieties that Eurobulbs do so I would have a few that were unusual.  Not too worried whether they are accurately labelled as such, just that, hopefully!!, they will be "interesting" for a newbie like me.

Having said that I had noticed that the name didn't feature on any of the photo sites I have been looking at, so I thought I'd wait and see what it looked like when it flowers.

Its labelled as "Green Bush" on their website, as well as the packet I received :( Here's the photo from their website:

http://www.eurobulbs.co.uk/acatalog/snowdrops.html

which does look like pictures of Green Brush on judyssnowdrops.co.uk.  I certainly haven't got any snowdrops with green tips like that, so that will be exciting for me :)

Thanks. I thought it best to get them in yesterday evening, as you say its only for a few months, so given I had 5-off's and 10-off's I put 5 in a 2L pot of JI #3 with some added sharp sand. Plenty of plump bulbs, and where they supplied 3-of-5 bulbs as small they had chucked an extra one in.  Certainly with the bulb purchases, of common ones I made from them last spring, their counting was hopeless!, a good 10% - 20% extras, which suited me well for naturalising them.  But I do realise that this is just cheap&cheerful to get me going. Off to Harvey's on Saturday, hopefully enough saved in my piggy-bank :)

The area under the trees gets enough sun that it has plenty of weeds, unlike larger and more dense woodland, so I've been spraying it with Roundup in the late Summer.

Be careful with round up
it still works months after you sprayed it
and the first snowdrops may start breaking the soil
also I have bad experience with spring germinating seed and autumn spraying

Hi There,
I’ve just had a look at the Eurobulbs website.. And their Sam Arnott doesn’t look right either.. At least mine LOOKS right but is, to my nose, without the fragrance which all the lists go on about!

K - try and buy this months Garden Illustrated (feb issue).  In there you will see what can be done in a winter woodland garden with snowdrops! It is truly breathtaking.  There is also another article for newcomers with good suggestions on what to buy.  I just got it today and it's worth a read.
