Arnold,

isn't Arum palaestinum supposed to be rose scented??? Indeed mine are not so, I read there are two forms, one scented and the other with the classic ... Arum scent, and I have just the second one  :(
Maybe Oron can tell us more about this species?

or with surmotatum venosum.... :P urk what an unforgettable stench!

Yes i have heard that palaestinum is meant to be one of the only nicely scented arums, of roses indeed. mine are in full leaf, I am hoping the flowers will be scented of roses when they flower....otherwise i dont know where I will put my 6 large show pots!

It seems that Dracunculus canariensis smells as pineapple
to long ago I had it in flower and then lost it when I moved to France
but I grow it again now
so maybe later this year I can confirm the smell

 Angelo:

I've heard there are two forms of A. palaestinum.  One pleasantly scented the other not.  I have the 'not' pleasantly scented.  Sent a couple of offsets last year into the PBS BX.

Here's the Arum palaestinum as promised.

Not that badly scented this time around. Wonder what determines intensity of the foul odor.  Am I getting accustomed to it?

Heard there is a pleasantly scented one out there.

Roland, the Helicodiceros bed is just a place to avoid at midday !  ;D
The scent is not strong in other hours.

BTW, if Oron jumps in this post, any comment about the good scented form of Arum palaestinum ?

I find Arum palaestinum scent relatively pleasant, it smells like decomposing fruits, and can be noticed only during warm day hours when fruit flies are active.

Angelo, you'll probably recognise this,
Arum apulum is doing very well here in deep shade.
