Deinanthe bifida from seeds
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:41:48 PM »
I have been sowing Deinanthe bifida this winter. I keep the pot in my livingroom, 18-21 degrees, and i keep it dark. No signs of life. Anyone with experience from sowing Deinanthe? It would be perfect in my woodland garden.

I would have guessed it needs the cold to germinate. It always pops up quite late in my garden (end of May), so I wouldn't worry about it not yet germinating though!

I found it germinates very well under cold glass,no heat needed. It produces minute seedlings which are very sensitive to drying and I have kept a plastic dome over the pot all year round. Now at two years they are just large enough to try and pot on.

Tony and Wimb, thank you very much for your advice. I will set it out in the cold right now, in a plastic bag. Seems we have some cold weather in front of us, still.
