An irritating problem has just emerged with my car so I will not get down to Hexham. Many of the plants were already boxed up and I was contemplating an entry in the large six pots class. With luck some may last until Perth next weekend. Have a good show - I look forward to the pictures on the Forum in due course.

My goodness, Stan,  how irritating for you of course but the loss of such a good entry to the Hexham Show Team will be equally keenly felt by them.
I remember only too well the worry as a Show Secretary that such a problem would befall one of our major exhibitors. :-X

Here's hoping that Hexham's loss is Perth's gain.  Surely the weather will  not be so good during the coming days as to push many of those plant over the edge....... :-\
Maybe you'll need to hire a trailer to take all your goodies to Perth ? Julia would be tickled pink!

Worth keeping the rhods in top condition. There is a special trophy for them and not usually many entries, looks as if the judges will have to do some work  ;)

Julia would be tickled pink!
as a married man I refute any suggestions of tickling show secretaries - its probably against  the show regulations as well.

Long time lurker but my first post (which I thought, eventually, would be about cyclamen, but there you go). Maggi and Peter, thanks for the encouragement!  :) The cyclamen reference will give you a clue about the few plants I'll be taking...

What a great show it was folks.  I'll download pics tomorrow, but the tables were groaning at the weight of plants on them.  it was announced we had altogether 814 plants exhibited!  Such a show it was.... too tired to do much more right now.

Just had a cheery phone-call from a noisy supper party in Ponteland  ;D
Mr and Mrs Newton are holding court over some fine casserole and Mississippi mud pie - with side orders of Trifle - boy, do those folk know how to celebrate a good show !
The Wyllie Wifie is there, I could hear her from nearly 300 miles away!

Seems the Hexham show went very well, with over 800 plants on the benches.
Cyril Lafong won the Farrer medal with a Tecophilaea ..... I'm assuming T. cycanocrocus

David Boyd, fresh from his Forrest medal at Edinburgh last weekend, won most points in Section I -and is very grateful to all the help with his plants that the faithful Northumberland Show supporters Angie and Trevor Jones gave him. Nice folks those Joneses!
Mrs Boyd, the clever Kim, is getting credit for the choices for David's cut flower entry -  a class he's never tried before - who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?? ;) ;D ;D ;D

Congrats to  Peter and all the Hexham Show Gang for another great show  8)

Glad to hear you are home safely Christine. Sleep tight!

Just got back from the Hexham show and it was wonderful.
The table displays leave you in awe of how some people manage to grow their plants.
I finally managed to get hold of the booklet that went with the SRGC seed list, and spent a happy ten minutes leafing through the packets. Calceolaria falklandica seed is now at home with me .
My favourites plants on the show table were Cymbidium goeringii and Townsendia hookeri. Now I just need to find out where I can get them .
After years of waiting I managed to find a plant of Philesia magellanica on the stall from Timpany .
Overall a very enjoyable day.

Ay up, Mick! I live in a village south of Huddersfield (Shelley), not far from Holmfirth, although originally I'm a Ponte lad. I see you're in Hemsworth - my Dad's from Upton, grandparents from South Elmsall!

Really impressed with the number of plants on the benches today and the quality was stunning. And I did OK for a first-timer. 8)

I visited the Hexam show with Cyril where we saw over 800 entries WOW never seen so many great plants and despite there being 8 or 10 contenders for the Farrer medal guess who won yes or good friend Cyril. We had a great day and I even managed to ge two red tickets the 3 pans unde 19 cm had 16 entries only managed a third amongst that lot but every entry was worth a first. I am posting my selection of pictures, cheers Ian the Christie kind.
