For any real plant geeks who would like more details of the talks (and later on the gardens) at the Czech Conference, I am slowly writing about these on the AGS website (under Any Other Topics). These are taken from my notes and photographs and any errors are purely my own!

Exciting news of a new arrival !
« Reply #124 on: July 11, 2013, 12:04:13 PM »
News is arrived from the charming Hungarian forumist, Gergő (Gergely) Lunk of the safe arrival of a baby boy!  All Czech conference participants have been waiting for this happiest of announcements ....

Gergő writes:

Dear Czech Rock Garden Conference participants, friends,

we gladly announce that Illés Lunk (probably the youngest member of the "rocky gardening community") was born on the 5th of July weighing 9 pounds and with a height of 22 inches!
He is the 6th grandchild in the Lunk family.

Timi and he got back home from the hospital and both are well. Villő is a proud big sister. We all are full of happiness.

We hope that you all are well!

This occasion gives me another chance to say thanks to all of you, and the Zvolanek brothers as well (Jiri, pls fwd this letter to them!)

our best regards

Gergő, Timi, Villő and Illés

Fondest congratulations to all  the  family - and well done to Timi for coping while Gergő was with us in the Czech Republic! We all thought she was a super star then -  now  we see it again with the delivery of this fine son, Villő's baby brother!

Wonderful news indeed and such a beautiful little lad. Well done both of you and I wish you many, many happy returns of this joyous day. Always good to greet another little alpine gardener into the world. He'll grow up surrounded by the most wonderful community of people and plants. :) :) :)

Enjoyed reading about the Conference in the International Rock Gardener - how often are they held?
The comments about small individual gardens being full of keen gardeners made me smile as it reminded me of my recent trip to San francisco with 70 garden bloggers where we too visited small domestic gardens in coaches causing people to come out of their houses to see what on earth was going on!!  It was really good fun although some of the owners looked a little bemused - I wonder if the Czech owners felt the same way

I'm sure they did Helen, there were lots of looks of surprise at seeing coach loads of people on their street.... and some of the streets were not very wide either, just like here, but the coach drivers were amazing and I take my hat off to them once again!

Some of us here in New Zealand have not been able to open the links for the Czech Conference threads, posted, I assume, by Jiri a while back. These are apparently due to expire on Ju;ly 31st? Is there any other way we can access them? :'( :'( :'(

The links Jiri emailed to delegates on the 9th June are, in most cases, very large files and it may be that it is the size that is causing download problems. One is almost 96MB!

I have followed the instructions given today and have been able to download all but one presentation perfectly.  One seems not to be able to complete with its first page but the others are fine. I think that with an uncertain connection or download limits, the size may be the cause of  difficulties.

I guess this could be the problem Maggi. It's just the link with the lecture and photo files I can't do and the others are OK or on the Forum anyway. The Dropbox things works OK but clicking on the lecture pinks just doesn't work at all. I've been very patient with them but nothing! I'll email Jiri and see if there's another way to retrieve them.

I noticed that there is not an option on where to  download the files to- they just go to my "Download" file which is not where I prefer them - I  preferred to open them and then saved them where I wanted them to be.

On my other machine this system is different and so is it possible that for you the files HAVE downloaded, but to a different section, perhaps a "temporary files" area.... this might be less than visible if it's like my desktop machine!

I had the same problem, Maggi, and found that if I put the lecture name in the 'Search' bit (bottom left), it showed me where it had been stowed.   Then all I had to do was cut and paste it into the file of my choosing.  The other option is to click the save bit on the PDF when it is downloaded.  Only one did not have that, I think.

I now have them all saved so maybe a USB stick may be the answer, Lesley.
