Pond problem
« on: September 05, 2013, 09:00:07 AM »
A friend has lots of hair like algae in his pond.
I read about barley straw for"cleaning" the water.
Has somebody tried it?How effective was it?How long does it take?
Barley straw is difficult to find here.Does it work with wheat straw?
Is it harmless to fish?

Barley straw works fine but it takes a couple of weeks to show results,it is not harmful to fish. I usually buy a small bale about 18ins x 9ins in the pet shop, sold as bedding for small animals.  I have no idea about wheat straw as I have never used it.

cheers
