Two unknown weeds.
« on: October 04, 2013, 09:42:49 AM »
Here are two tiny leaved, creeping weeds from my garden. No idea what they are. The leaves are about finger nail size.

They're not weeds, they're ground cover!

The first looks like Dichondra though I'm not familiar with it's flowers!

Trouble is Ralph the groundcover is often in the wrong place.

Anthony,
According to Wikipedia Dichondra repens is native to Australia where it is called kidney weed and New Zealand where it's called Mercury Bay weed!

Yes, the first is Dichondra repens

The second is most probably Hydrocotyle dissecta [although yours is not much dissected]

Thanks Oron. I can now live happily with these plants knowing they are New Zealand natives. Oratia Native Plant Nursery even offers a prize for a submitted photo, so I submitted one!  8) http://www.oratianatives.co.nz/catalogue_item.php?catalogue_id=1078 Not sure if my pleasure would extend to New Zealand bittercress!
