Different Cyrtanthus species

How are your experiences with different Cyrtanthus species in cultivation, do they Need full sun to grow and flower?

I'm thinking about ordering some Cyrtanthus as I found a webshop which offers some species (young bulbs). I could offer an east-facing window (sun till about 11 a.m.) and they could spend the warm season outside on a balcony (either east or west).

Especially interesting are experiences with C. breviflorus, C. epiphyticus, C. flanganii, C. loddigesianus and C. smithiae.

Thomas, I grow several Cyrtanthus species here in Indiana, USA.  In summer (May-Sept) they are outdoors in full sun (at 40° N) so I think they will take full sun easily at the latitude of Germany.

C. epiphyticus and C. smithiae need particularly sharp drainage in the compost and both will need good sun exposure at our latitudes -especially smithiae.

Cyrtanthus falcatus is finally blooming again after sulking for years after it was repotted.





Unfortunately, past experience shows that these are self-sterile, and I have no compatible pollen in storage.
