AGS Loughborough Show, 8th March

AGS Loughborough Spring Show 8th March
Charnwood College, Thorpe Hill, Loughborough, LE11 4SQ. Only a couple of miles from the M1, J23

Not long now until the annual spring extravaganza. Never mind if you’re not into show plants, although how can you not be wowed by 700+ plants ablaze in almost every colour of the rainbow and a few more besides. Is art your thing? Come and visit the artistic section.

This is also the plant sale to end all plant sales. Nurseries in attendance are:
Aberconwy
Choice Landscapes
Edrom
Evolution Plants
Fieldhouse
Laneside Hardy orchids
Little Heath Farm
Norwell
Orchid Alchemy
Parham Bungalow
Potterton
Slack Top
Tale Valley
Thuya Alpines
Wildside Plants

Plus an AGS members plant stall, Terrapot pots, AGS Book Stall & Seed Sales and on site catering, don’t miss the best sausage and bacon cobs on the show circuit (others may, of course, dispute this claim).

All this for just £3, members free of course.

Merciful heavens, it's worth a visit for the plant sales alone - so much temptation in one place!

For non drivers the best way to get to the school is by bus from the centre of Loughborough. A 'Sprint' bus leaves the Railway Station every 10 minutes for the town centre from where the Kinchbus 5, which runs every 30 minutes, will bring you to the gates of the school. This is one of those services which runs on a 'loop' and goes through the town centre twice so try to get on it going the shortest way.

Wonder if we ought to run a competition to see which visitors can work out which way is the "shortest way"  ?  ;D

That would probably be me  - I have nightmares about "anti-clockwise on the M25" - fine - but from the north or the south  ??? ::)

But that's only a problem if you approach it from above or below 8)

I've been somewhat put-off AGS shows by one that takes place more local to me.  There it seems if you turn up at the time the show formally opens you will have already missed all the best plants.  Is Loughborough the same?
Almost in Scotland.

The best plants on the members stall go to the people who turn up at dawn to stage their plants!
The Nursery men will bring orders for you,so their best plants could well be under the stall just awaiting your arrival.
Worth going even if you come away with no plants at all.
Lousy lighting for picture taking though.

Alan, plant sales at Loughborough officially open at 10.00. Shall I make sure someone's on the door early to take your £3 or have you given in and joined up :)

Seriously there is no problem after about 09.00

Alas Eric, there is little I can do about the lights :'(

Thank you Martin.  If I do manage to go I doubt that I would get up early enough to get there much before 10 anyway but If I arrive early I'll try to get straight in.
Almost in Scotland.
