Maggi I can send Ian some pollen right now, of the choc cosmos. Then it's all go. Of course I would want some of the first babies.  :D Then I should be able to send crocus pollen when your cosmos flowers. Do the cross both ways. ;D

I saw 'Little Ben' - two flowers in a pot - for £4 at Dunblane and bought a potful of Augustus for £3. :) I noticed Ian Christie buy the only Greenfield for £2! :(

Even the dealers were only charging £8.50 for two 2 flowering 'Little Ben' bulbs in a pot. I also bought a pair of 'Mrs Backhouse's Spectacles', 'Bitton', and several others.

Maggi, are all 'Augustus' virused and if not, how does it manifest itself?

What great prices. But then, I suppose being all Scottish up there they realised that nobody would pay any more for a snowdrop - and this is a compliment to your good judgement and intelligence!

The virus shows as yellowish stripes on the leaves later in the season, and a general lack of vigour. Ron Mackenzie of The Snowdrop Company has a virus-free stock which is sometimes listed in his catalogue. I bought a bulb about 3 years ago which I chipped and I now have a small clump flowering which does have healthy leaves. Most commercial stocks are reputedly virused.

Yes, that was a hoot! 8) True, though, eh?  :D And, of course, depending on how things go, you may spend ALL the year looking at the gravel! :'(

I've already discovered several things which must have decided the gravel was better looking than they were!

Sue, was it you I promised some seed of Myosotis capitata? My usually foolproof method of writing a note to myself has gone belly up because I cleaned out my book/computer/sparebedroom and now I can't find all those little bits of paper. Anyway, the Myosotis seed is ready to go, along with Polyxena (Anthony) and various Narcissus (various people) so those will get away in the next few days but I'd like to be sure I'm sending the Myosotis to the right person.
