positioning my pleione

The collection from Ian Butterfield is now in bud or already flowering, but they are in an upstairs room with no direct light and 12 degrees dayand night.
Would they be better in the glasshouse with mywintergreens, near thefan and in full sun, but with a night temp of 5, possibly lower tonight?

Mine are outside in the unheated greenhouse. Once flowers are over they will move to floor under the staging

you would be better off putting your pleiones into the greenhouse if it is protected from frost, although I have found that they can tolerate a light frost provided ti does not last long, say a couple of hours overnight has been no problem for me.

If you keep them in the house, the flowers will not last very long and the growth will be lanky and weak. Cheers.

Hi Glynn,
I too would put them in the greenhouse, but I would also try and give the house some shading. While Pleiones will tolerate full sun if watered well, it does stress them and you will get much better growth if you are able to give them some shade. A good guide someone gave me as to how much shade is that the light level should be such that when you hold your hand about 15-20 cm above the leaves it shouldn't throw a shadow on them. The person who gave me this advice grows the best quality Pleiones I have ever seen!

Thanks all.The greenhouse it is then.I have just got back from the Alpine show in Hexham and was very impressed with the size of Pleione  bulbs on the show benches.None for sale at the trade stands unfortunately.

when growing pleiones then there is no doubt that the greenhouse is best.
I've been experimenting with flowering different clones in the home and found that
there are big differences.
Some do Ok, some barely open before dying.
Flowers from large bulbs definitely tend to do better and last longer.
Some are hopeless despite having large bulbs  -Eiger 'snowflake' is one.
The Rakata, Shantung and Vesuvius clones all seem to do well.
