« on: March 25, 2014, 02:02:45 PM »
Am I too late to buy and plant martagon lilies and their hybrids?

Who do you recommend?
I did find this seller http://www.hwhyde.co.uk/lilies/martagons/

Please note Martagon bulbs are only available in the Autumn.
Here, they are already emerging.  Except for cattaniae, which is always fashionably late.
from what I've seen, spring planted martagon bulbs show very little growth above ground in their first year. Potted plants should be fine for spring planting of course, if you can find any.

Mark,

Martagons are definitely better planted in the autumn.
They take time to settle and don't give of their best for a couple of seasons.
Hyde's sell decent bulbs, you should have no problems.
They prefer a bit of shade compared to some others,

I have bought bulbs from Hyde's in the spring and they have been excellent. Yes better planted early but still has not been a problem.
