Well my birthday has been a non event for the last 60 years really. I seem to remember a dinner party for my 21st but nothing else stands out, except the lovely cards sent by some Forumists. :)

Talking of Chaucer, which we weren't really, I've just finished an excellent book called "A Burnable Book" by Bruce Holsinger who is, I think American but well versed in the England of the Middle Ages (1385).  Shan't relate the story but read it if you have an opportunity. A jolly good yarn and about a period which interests me. I think I now know the reason why Magdalene College at Oxford is correctly pronounced as Maudlin or Maudlyn.
