Salix jacquemontii
« on: May 17, 2014, 07:37:24 PM »
Hi!
I have Salix jaquemontia (edit jacquemontii) but can't find any information on it (Google). Can anyone provide me with anything - particularly it's origin.

Don't think such a name exists, Graham - might be a typo for Salix jacquiniana - which is a synonym of Salix alpina ?

Hi Maggi,
Thanks for this. I have now found another spelling - jacquemontii which is offered by Binny Plants. However they state that they acquired it by that name but it isn't verified. And according to Rumbling Bridge it's a North American species but those are the only two references to that spelling.

I see there are several references to Salix myrsinites jacquiniana as well - but that isn't listed by Kew and there is no sign of a jacquemontia there either.

This page http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=SALIX  gives names of Salix species found in the USA

Hi Maggi,
Many thanks for the information. I'm still not sure and will contact Rumbling Bridge to see if they have any further information.

A reply from Graeme at Rumbling Bridge says that this is a Himalayan species and not North American as his catalogue suggests. He will change that next year. No indication from him that the name might be incorrect. Will chat to him at Gardening Scotland at the end of the week.
