Almost feels like winter here with a predicted top of 13^oC in Kyneton where I work!
In the garden the first flower on Gladiolus dalenii and the first flowers on a seedling nerine in the shade-house,

Just for the record, I'm home from hospital, on Saturday, Susan More collected me and brought me home, the dear lady. Surgeon and anaesthetist both very pleased with me and I have a registered nurse phoning or visiting daily to make sure I'm all right. Some pain but not as bad as I expected and mostly where drains were. The wound itself not too bad and of course I have painkillers. So - I should be back to usual self in a short time.

So many people sent kind messages. I do thank everyone for their thoughts and good wishes.

Lesley, I obviously missed the earlier post, but glad to hear you are recovering! Take your time and I can tell you, plants and gardening are  most helpful to stay happily healthy.

Thank you Luit for your kind thoughts. It's only because winter is starting here and the weather is frightful anyway, that I can bear not to be gardening for the present time but assuredly I will be, as soon as spring starts and then I really expect to get well again.

David, I was never one for jogging much so I don't expect to start any time soon. I am walking though, up and down our driveway which from back door to mail box and back is about 250 metres. If I do that say 6 times a day, that's 1.5 kilometres. At present I'm doing just 4 times, adding another every few days. It's getting a bit boring though. The surrounding paddocks are bogs at present so I'll have to go further afield and walk at the local park or golf club. Can't walk much on the road as it's NZ's equivalent of the M1 (on a very minor scale but nevertheless, not for walking on).

Lovely Acis Fermi, I think I lost mine a while back. It didn't come up last year. Anthony your Gladiolus is very nice. I think this is the same one a Chch friend had a good pot of a while back, one or two flowering stems and masses of fine, hairlike cormlet leaves. He went insane when I offered - and nearly succeeded - to tweak out all that weedy "grass" for him.

Fermi If did plant two good pots of Asteranthera ovata today. I had dug then a couple of months ago and in the meantime they have grown massively and I couldn't resist replanting them. But the ground is so soft that it was no problem and there was no weeding involved as well so it was quick, easy and painless. Have to start somewhere.

I'm bigger than she is. Actually I am a little sore today but it's because of sitting down so much I think, bent in the middle. OAGG meeting in Dunedin tonight and we're having Ian's fantastic DVD but unfortunately the weather has done the wrong thing and it's close to snowing here at present and the forecast for tonight getting worse so there will most likely be very few people there. But we can see it again of course under better circumstances.

Size isn't everything - I'd be afraid of the Shoe Pixie in a rage ....and I'm bigger than both of you put together! ( The S.P. can outshoe us!)

When Susan and I had coffee on Tuesday, she was wearing her shocking pink patent leather boots. As we went to our cars, a little boy of maybe 6 or 7 years old passed us, wearing bright psychodelic lime green trainers. "Cool shoes" said Susan. "Thanks" said the lad, blushing all over his face. He was thrilled that someone, and a grown-up, though his shoes were "cool." She'd be pleased with the title of "Shoe Pixie" and yes, she sure does outshoe both of us.

It was good to see Ian again in his DVD and the garden was super. It's amazing how much I'd forgotten in just a year, so a lovely refresher course. We had a surprising number of people at the meeting considering the weather and everyone enjoyed it very much indeed. The fruit and chocolate cake afterwards was OK too.
