Oh now! Wasn't there a big fuss about splicing snowdrop genes into potatoes?

Yes! (After a quick online search)

The ''Pusztai Affair''.. You wouldn't guess from the name.. but a Scottish story!!!

Other sites give the name as Witchill -     https://www.lovepotatoes.co.uk/potato-varieties/witchill
"This is an attractive small, round white potato with a good flavour. Great for boiling, roasting whole or steaming."

Alan Romans' book is around £48 so I'm not rushing to buy it! None of these titles are exactly cheap for a quick bit or research..

Just back from visiting Spring Platt. Excellent collection well displayed. Some pictures when I eventually get my computer back from the repair shop!

Another US snowdrop event, a tour of Nancy Goodwin's Montrose Gardens in Hillsborough, North Carolina:

Nancy has been growing snowdrops since 1963 and in her current garden since 1977. You can go to Montrose and tour the gardens during snowdrop season, which is now in North Carolina. I have done it, and I highly recommend it. She has thousands and thousands of snowdrops and grows the species elwesii, nivalis, gracilis, plicatus, woronowii, peshmenii, and reginae-olgae plus numerous forms she has selected herself, including a true virescent called 'Almost All Green'.

Here's the info: tours by appointment on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday from September through May. The minimum number is one and the charge is $11 per person. She is giving lots of tours now to people who want to see winter flowers.  919-732-7787, montrosegdn@embarqmail.com.

Today I´ve been to Kalmthout, a highly enjoyable event. No overcrowding, lots of interesting snowdrops to buy and see, and splendid lectures. Valentin Wijnen showed some very desirable new snowdrops during his inspiring talk. And many nice and friendly people to meet, too.

Who else could there be at Kalmthout on St Valentine's Day, Mariette- but Valentin Wijnen?? A perfect choice for the day!   Did you find some new plants, Mariette?

Valentin Wijnen showed some new Belgian selections, alas not offered for sale. ´Aragnee´was as unusual as the name suggests, but ´Grake´s Silver Spoon´ and ´Green Epaulet´ were simply very beautiful and much to my taste. The latter not only of perfect form, but coulored most effectively in two shades of green.

More details and a schedule for the upcoming Bank to Bend snowdrop event on March 7 at Winterthur, Delaware, US, can be found here: http://carolynsshadegardens.com/2015/02/17/snowdrops-at-winterthur-and-here-2015/.  Carolyn's Shade Gardens will be selling snowdrops, cyclamen and a wide assortment of blooming hellebores.  There will also be a lecture by Andrew Turvey of Myddelton House, guided tours, and an "Introduction to Snowdrops" workshop for gardeners wishing to increase their knowledge of this wonderful genus.
