First flowering on a little Narcissus hybrid I received from Jon B as "jonquilla hybrid" and it appears to be a little N. triandrus x N. jonquilla - is it 'Hawera'? A lot earlier than my clump in the garden,

Here's what I have as 'Hawera' Fermi. The jonquilla x triandrus parentage would be correct. Looks very similar. The only difference I can see is that in your plant the rim of the corona is more finely crenulate than my plant, in which the rim is shallowly 6-lobed.

Daffseek says for 'Hawera': "rim broadly and obscurely crenate" with most of the pictures clearly showing the 6-lobed rim similar to mine.

The similar 'April Tears' has: "rim entire or occasionally notched. Resembles 'Hawera' but with broader perianth segments."

I'm not sure that you perianth segments are broad enough to be 'April Tears', being closer to 'Hawera'?

I think 'Hawera' is the more likely answer - it's been around longer as well.

Anyone tell me why my hoop petticoats open on such short stems? This is Narcissus cantabricus, but N. bulbocodium nivalis did the same on all three of its flowers this year.

A few standard daffodils flowering today, Tas Rose, perhaps my favourite double from Tasmania, bred by Harold Cross, and a few seedlings, unknown breeding.
