Hedychium identification
« on: September 04, 2014, 12:07:31 PM »
We grew this first Hedychium for years as coccineum and then ordered densiflorum two years ago from Fraser's Thimble Farm.  In the interim we could see no difference between the leaves or shoot markings of both.  Today the densiflorum flowered and it is distinctly different,  I like the strong colour and tighter flower arrangement.  Are they both densiflorum and are they named forms or what do we have?

the first plant looks like typical Hedychium densiflorum to me. I think the second is 'Assam Orange'

Thanks reifuan!  Delighted it is Assam Orange, a hardy one.
