Purchasing seeds from Vlastimil Pilous' seed list
« on: January 09, 2015, 04:56:32 PM »
I asked him for his seed list in 2014 and the instructions on there about how to pay and order seeds is not particularly clear.

The only way I am comfortable sending money to the continent is by cheque.
Has any one else bought seed from him in the UK and how have you gone about it and how much dose it cost to post?  :)

Thanks  :)

It's easy to set up an international bank transfer with online banking using the bank account details (IBAN, etc) that Vlastimil has included on his seed list. I have paid him safely and conveniently by this method on three occasions now and can confirm that it is safe and hassle-free.

Thanks guys for that. Some of his seeds he has are quite rare upon research.

My impression has been, in the past, that UK bank charges for this service are quite high?

It was 20 pounds in Canada when I last checked about ten years ago.
I'm sure it has gone up since.

Thank you to whoever started PayPal.

I agree with Diane, thank goodness for Paypal, it would be much easier for us to get seed from this particular seed list.  I cannot manage any of the options.

In New Zealand my bank has a minimum of $100.00 to be transferred and that is often too much for a seed purchase, plus a fee for being so generous as to allow me to transfer money.

For transferring money to a bank account in another country  I use this company https://transferwise.com/ charges 0.5% of transaction, with a minimum of £1, fee, much cheaper than a bank and the exchange rate is better.

My bank (BNS) quoted $35 / £20 just a couple of years ago so I mailed cash instead.   Probably not a wise thing to do but preferred that to dealing with unknown companies on the internet who were willing to do transactions, enough horrors to deal with aside from an emptied account.

I've ordered  from Pilous' seed list also.   I'm a risk taker, I sent cash, as in USD , and it arrived safely. My order was filled, received , and seedlings are germinating as we speak.   To each his own.
Paypal would be easiest, but this vendor does not subscribe. Apple Pay will soon supersede Paypal. This all makes international sales and payments the easiest, and safest. Bitcoin, anyone?

Maybe, en masse we could ask Mr Pilous to start with Paypal? If enough people wanted to buy and pay in this way surely it would be worth his while. I've twice bought seed from him, a few years ago now, and had excellent germination and subsequent results but I don't remember how I paid for it.

Hi Lesley I bought from Vlastimil last year and paid by bank transfer, I think my charges were about £10.00. I've already sent in a order for this year, i'll use the site Neil suggested, it sounds a lot cheaper.
