Alert: Brand New Beauty from Glen Chantry!!

I was very chuffed to be asked to suggest a name for a beautiful new snowdrop from Wol & Sue Staines (GC14) which I saw today! The flowers looked just like a swarm of green bees resting on the plant so I suggested 'Bumble Green'. It is described as:

"Bumble Green is a substantial elwesii with two well defined marks on the inner segments. It starts flowering well before Xmas. The green marks on the outer segments of mature bulbs at their best add much to the overall attractiveness of the flower but they can be variable."

Of all the 'green' snowdrops I have seen it is by far the most attractive and it is way more stunning than my 'Green Tear' and early flowering too!

I managed to take a couple of rough photos which I have attached.

I understand that a very few MAY be available at Myddelton and maybe Harvey's and I have given the photos to my husband with the instruction to 'get one by all necessary means or come home on his shield'!

It will be a prized addition to any collection and I suggest that if you want it you should wear running spikes at Myddelton

That's a good name, Ingrid - such fun for you   to be asked!  In the pic from above the flower  I can see  what you mean about green bumble bees. Even the marks are fat!

Hi Richard, it is a real beauty and the photo does it scant justice!

He is an expert in Russian Sambo, which came in very handy at Myddelton last year, it is the only reason I take him!

Hi Carolyn, they are indeed  Myddelton was characterised by hoards of grim faced galanthophiles, twitching slightly as the time they removed the barrier approached, revving their scythed chariots and muttering to themselves  Usain Bolt came 10th in the sprint to the Glen Chantry stall, he has been a broken man since!

Snowdrop Event Dates Glen Chantry Snowdrops are  booked to sell at in 2015

We have a very large selection of choice snowdrops established in individual pots to offer at the events below. Many are varieties that we have in numbers too small to offer in our full resting bulb list.  A list of varieties will be available at the events. To enable us to offer the widest selection at the events, we regret that we cannot accept pre orders.

Well I will be there, weather permitting, taking a few photos so I expect if I can get the act together in time I could, as long as I get a good vantage point, take a video as well.  Having said that the file will be pretty large so I will have to find out how to get it to the size for the web as I only have experience of photos.
