'The world of galanthophilia is full of headstrong egos. They all rumble along together somewhat uneasily, rather like the earth’s tectonic plates, until the inevitable eruption occurs from the inner depths.'

Whoever could Val be referring to.....

Hagen, the mid season snowdrops are just starting. But the forecast of some cold (-6 degrees celcius) over night will slow everything down! Hopefully without damage!

A very interesting article by Val! her observations about G. Phil Cornish are spot on, mine has just flowered and it is small in stature and quite enchanting!

I showed my other half Val's comments on 'egos' within the Galanthophile community. I select my targets and give them to him for acquisition! He therefore has had contact with a great number of galanthophiles and always announces himself as a 'non-galanthophile with no interest in snowdrops' - absolutely true!

His view on those who were friendly and helpful and those who were more dismissive was highly enlightening. I had no idea until today that he had his own list of 'those I would not deal with or purchase from under any circumstances'. Considering that once a variety has made 'our combined list' he is price insensitive, ego certainly has a price.

Ingrid - I've edited your photo to be the forum preferred size of  max. 760 pixels wide  :)

I think I prefer  'drops with green outers  if the overall flower shape is chubby rather than long. Oddly, this preference has only just registered with me.  ???

I'm with your OH - there's a lot to be said for friendliness and you are right, ego can have a high price- not least in commerce!!

The word galanthophilia could be replaced by many others referring to quite specialised and often obsessive hobbies and that sentence would apply  ;) they just attract a certain sort....

I just like being friendly  :)

Richard is right of course, egos are to be seen in many other hobbies.

I'm pretty quick at recognising an ego .... ;D

It's why I much prefer swapping over buying, their motivations are different & you get to meet the nicest people :)

Quite so, Richard, but there are folks who are just starting and have nothing to swap - One can only hope that all the sellers they encounter, in any sphere, would be both honest and friendly. But it ain't necessarily so....
