 The shape of G. 'Philippe André Meyer' is quite exaggerated , isn't it?   
Though quite how such a shape puts anyone in mind of the pteruges of a Roman soldier's uniform is beyond me - the flaring pigtails of a small girl, perhaps, but not the segments of Roman military garb. I have a feeling that if  a Roman soldier had had such segments on his uniform his enemies would have pilloried him mercilessly. The only skirt more elaborately flared is the tutu of a ballerina!

I last saw 'Phil's Fancy' at one of the East Lambrook Manor snowdrop days when I think Alan Street kindly allowed me to take a photo. It has been open a few days here and finally dropped today - wow

Believe me, I'm not suggesting it is!  But there is an established term of  poculiform and so I don't see that the use of inverse poculiform is any harder to get to grips with.  After all, I'd venture to suggest that huge numbers of people will never know what any of them mean in regard to their ancient  roots - all that is needed is for the terms to be accepted and used automatically. And since the terms of poc. and inverse poc. have been published already then I am at a loss to understand the need to change. It's not even as if there was the "excuse" of a botanist coming up with a re-name of a species for instance - this is simply a case of  a name being disliked - small beer, very small beer! 
 The extreme shape of this 'drop brought the thought of the inappropriateness of the "Roman soldier"  naming to mind.....

Now you know I am only pulling your pigtails Maggi   What I do like about pterugiform though is that it can be abbreviated to pteri, whereas inverse poc. is still a little bit cumbersome.  As with the pronunciation of clematis, potato etc etc it really doesn't matter as long as we all know what each other means

Well I'm sorry Mark, I'm not having a go but, after all these years of seeing your photos of snowdrops that are in flower when mine are only just through the ground I am jumping up and down with joy saying "At last"!  Mind you as it was bought in flower from Avon this year I expect yours will be out first next year so you'll get your own back again
