Thanks Anne and Brian.
We have nivalis scharlockii in many variations.

These are 3 other finds of last year! (sorry not the best pictures).
The first one is the best to me.

I'm so far behind in editing the photos I took while I was away and on top of those I'm taking more here at home. I've only just finished editing photos from one visit

Some if not all of you will be familiar with G. gracilis 'Andre's Fault' 'Andrea's Fault'

Mark - I have never seen or heard of gracilis Andre's Fault before....it is stunning.

I managed to take a few photos today although not as sharp as I would have liked - very windy.  Took a few inside that were potted.  I am continuing to dig up established clumps that are being attacked by Swift Moth larvae.  I discovered I have 2 generations in the patch in front of the coloured stemmed dogswoods.   I found big, large fat ones and much smaller ones - it makes me feel ill  :'(

A few more including clumps growing under huge deciduous trees in the woodland area - I am finding evidence of Swift Moth here too so will be digging these up next  ???  I thought the moth did not like it in the shadier areas?

Yes, some nice finds Ruben, why can't we find them in English woodlands?

It can be done but you need the right woodland.  A lot of the nivalis in the UK seem to be infertile or only slightly fertile so all the snowdrops look much the same.  I cannot think of a local example for you, Brian, but the 'Snowdrop Valley' at Wheddon Cross springs to mind as an example of a huge nivalis population that seems to be largely infertile.

But there are some seeding populations of nivalis where you will see much greater variety of size and shape and have a much better chance of finding something unusual.  Of course, what we don't have is the large populations of 'Scharlockii' that Ruben has access to; perhaps that's what you meant?

Well as they were all scharlockii ...  My apologies looking back they weren't all scharlockii, but those were the ones I was referring to.  There are many woodlands with interesting populations in East Anglia Alan, and various people have found interesting snowdrops in them, you just need to know where they are.
