Jim Watson, who lives in the same village as me, has done his level best to let
Corydalis popovii (81) get as much light as possible this spring and he produced it in really fine fettle for the show, pity the pic does not do it justice
Grevillea lavigera prostrata (83) from John Savage
Viola jooi from Alan Furness in 85 and two pictures of
Saxifraga dinnikiiin 85, the first from Geoff Mawson, the second from Ian Kidman showing a degree of difference

Petrocosmea rosettifolia (95) from Christine Boulby was a pristine example in the foliage class
Androsace idahoensis shown by Alan Newton in a three pan class (97)
Viola beckwithii var beckwithii won the EG Watson trophy for Ian Kidman  (102)
Pulsatilla vernalis (from F & B Hoyle
Dionysia bryoides from Derek Pickard in 106, he also won the Sandhoe Trophy for the best plant in a <19cm pan

Hyacinthoides reverchonii from Chris Lilley (108)

New and Rare classes are usually of interest so I attach both pictures of the plants and also the notes for each as well. Both are from Cyril Lafong
Primula odontocalyx var alba and notes

Primula odontocalyx and notes......both these plants were awarded a PC

In the plants from seed class (107)
Primula pubescens alba from Brian Burrow knocked my own
Saxifraga dinninaris into second place
It makes you wonder who is the Plants Boss in the Barraclough household when Heather can produce
Primula 'Clarence Elliot'  (112) and
Primula allionii 'Mrs Dyas' (113)
Erythronium multiscapoideum from Bob Worsley (117)

The previous few pictures and the next and final two were all in the Intermediate or Novice sections which were very well supported at this show which makes a very nice change
Narcissus 'Oxford Gold' from Keith Blundell (130)
Pulsatilla halleri slavica from George Jaworski (136) would have not in the least have been out of place in the Open Section, a very lovely specimen.

That's my lot, sorry to have hogged the pages for so many pictures but it is my local show so I feel I have to share it with as many folk as possible, might encourage a few more to visit next year.

For those of us unable to visit this, or other shows, George, these reports are definitely the next best thing - and those of you  who are kind enough to take the time and trouble to  take photos and share them with us all are very much appreciated.  I know this both from my own feeling and the messages which I get from all over the world from the readers who enjoy these pages.  Thanks!   8)

 What an array of mega-cushions!
I think  Anemone caucasica is very tasteful - such a little gem.  Narcissis bulbocodium var conspicuous from Jim McG. in  Class 20 is super, as is the Narcissus minor from David Boyd.
Isn't that Petrocosmea rosettifolia from Chris B a bosker?  absolutely perfect, eh?

Were there a good number of sales stalls too? Looks like it was a great day out.

Yes and Yes Matt.  :)
There were lots of wonderful plants for sale and Darren and I are very pleased with our purchases.  Have to admit to being a little frivolous and treating myself to an air freshener for the car journey home - a lovely little Daphne, by the time we got into the car for the return journey the flowers had filled the car with the most wonderful fragrance  ;D

And it was a smashing day out.  Not only was the hall full of the most amazing plants, both in the show and the sales area, the room was full of friendly (and extremely knowledgeable) folk to have a chat with.  For those wishing to brave the down pours in the morning then Hexham is a lovely place to visit - the Potting Shed for some lovely terracotta pots, the farmers market for lots of tasty treats (there is even a stall specialising in pies / pasties for vegetarians), whilst the town centre shops provided additional retail therapy....

Thank you to Peter and his team for an extremely enjoyable day out.

Love the photo tours of the shows, the efforts people go to provide them for us 'stay at homes' is greatly appreciated ... they give us the opportunity to 'visit' a lot more shows than we can get to in person.

Nice to get feed back, just been having a look at some of my pics to see how they come over, rather a pity some are very small, I cannot read the writing on the culture notes for the two rare primula shown by Cyril for example. I had pared down and edited about 40 pics that I thought would be ok for the forum but instead of resizing them on an individual basis down to <200meg I did a block resize all in one go and as my programme does not let me resize in megs but in size I guessed what would fit all....now see that some are too small to have been worth posting in my view....my apologies. I will redo the notes if Maggi can fit them in in place of the too small ones

I will certainly do that , George.

I think if you edit for picture width of 760 pixels   rather than the "less than 200KB"  then I think that for the most part you will find that you have a bigger picture and still be "under the limit"

That works for me when using ACDSee to edit photos -some of which are around 5MB to start with. I am no techy expert so you may need to find someone with that kind of brain to advise you more.   If you are using one of these cameras which takes 15MB files, then I don't know what will happen  - we need Steve G. to help with that one I think!

Second resize for the notes, hope these are more readable
Just read your post Maggi, my programme does not allow me to set it at a pixel level which is the problem. My camera is now out of date in that it is only a 5 mega pixel job so most of my pictures before editing are around 2 to 3 mb. Will have a look at other programmes as you suggest

Many thanks Stan and George. I know it takes a massive amount of time to prepare a large batch of pictures and it really is much appreciated.
