This is auricula 'Helen Ruane' - I thought it very unusual and lovely.

Lesley are you going to show us some of your plants😀
I will in due course John. It is autumn here at present and though some are flowering, they make better flowers in spring - as easily seen in the images already in this thread. The double ochre/crimson I'll take a picture of today since I mentioned it but others I'll wait for a few months.

Oh Maggi, that 'Helen Ruane' is incredible. No chance of getting these named plants here in NZ unfortunately but if anyone would care to post some seed sources here, I'd be very grateful (or in a PM if you prefer). I'll be getting more seed from Barnhaven later in the year but would welcome some other sources as well. Thanks.

I acquired this Auricula when working at the Cruickshank Garden. It came from the late Alec Duguid when he was retired and living at Ballater. I do not know if it was ever widely distributed. There were two - Craig Dubh and Craig Ruadh. Not sure if names and spelling are accurate. I think this is Craig Ruadh.

What a lovely plant - such a velvety texture and that white ring/yellow star is very pretty. Your spellings are correct for the Gaelic, although spelling is variable so you often see 'creag' as well as 'craig'. I presume Craig Dubh (translating as 'black rock') was a darker colour than Craig Ruadh ('red rock')?

I've never seen either of them listed.

I can't remember seeing them flowering together. It was a long time ago. As far as I remember the parent plants died and rooted cuttings were stolen from the frame at the Cruickshank garden. I'm not absolutely sure which one I have but assume it is Craig Ruadh because of the reddish colouring.

I love your red Roma, especially well set off by the almost white leaves.
Those are beauties in the Westacre gallery.

Another couple of auriculas in flower, first is one I got from ashwoods when I went last year on a family day out and the second is auricula symphony, which I think is looking a bit sickly

A lovely plant John but I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong as clicking on each link separately, I get 3 identical pictures. Was that intended?

I've posted the Newbottle Show pics of auriculas under events. Wasn't sure whether to put them here or there, but the other show pics were also under events so that's where I put mine.....
edit by maggi - and here is the link to that thread
