Any Yorkshire folk/ Scots in your family tree?

If I am willing to wear a kilt, does that count too?  ;D ;D

By the way, my great grandmother's family name was Smith. Any Scottish reference you reckon?

Haha, Rick. I must admit I have designed my own tartan already.  ;D

And Anne, so maybe I have some traces of Yorkshire blood somehwere in my veins. :)

Hi Anne, during your extensive testing of the new yellows, have you seen them thrive in 'sunny' Scotland? A fellow Scottish member of the yellow team asked me as she has had problems with yellows in the Dominions  ;D and wondered if these were the answer...

I naturally told her Gold Sovereign was more a Southern snowdrop  ;D ::) ::)

Surely if you want a Scottish yellow snowdrop then 'Elizabeth Harrison' is your answer?

Most nivalis Sandersii Group snowdrops hale originally from the wild snowdrop population in Northumberland - which is not too far south of the border.

The yellow plicatus snowdrops come from near me in Cambridgeshire or even further south so perhaps they are too nesh for Scotland?
Almost in Scotland.

The Dryad Golds we've had to trial here are doing okay  in Aberdeen, Ingrid.

No idea what "nesh" means, Alan - some southern patois, I expect?

I have passed on your note Maggi, many thanks! I guessed Anne would trial them widely. I think some of the negative feedback around 'Ronald MacKenzie' has focussed some collectors minds!

Yes, some yellows are not too good here, which has  put me off them.  Anne's place in Yorkshire is not exactly tropical, so the Dryad Golds are well bred for  poor weather!

I've heard nesh mentioned when I lived in Yorkshire Maggi, so I don't think it's a southern thing. I think it means no good or something like that, I'm sure Alan will correct me if I've got it wrong ;D

'Nesh' was a regular term when I lived in Cheshire. It means someone who is susceptible to cold. I've not heard it mentioned in relation to plants.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nesh    I'm originally from the East Midlands where the term is used as per the Wikipedia entry.

I may be stretching the usage by applying it to a plant - but why not.
Almost in Scotland.
