In the Greenhouse Now
« on: February 08, 2008, 01:24:53 PM »
Narcissus, Galanthus and Iris all have their own threads.  This leaves a lot flowering currently that do not get a mention as there are too few to warrant a topic on their own.

I have the following flowering today.  The first and third are Muscari from Turkey where I collected seed in 1999.  The second I think is Muscari ambrosiacum, but not sure.

Here I know what I am looking at.

The main pot is Merendra soboliferum, purchased last year from Leonid Bondarenko.  In the pot to the left is Scilla rosenii

With the sunny weather there will be nothing for the early AGS Shows

First two are Narcissus cordubensis (Bulbs were obtained at a Fritillaria Show at Wisley, when Wisley were selling off their surplus bulbs after repotting).

Tulip is Tulipa cretica

Tulip unknown

Fortunately? they are not multiplying rapidly like the muscari sold as garden plants.

I think I was very fortunate to collect seed of these.  I have another muscari that I will post later - not yet up - that is a very odd colour.  Everyone who sees it wants it.

I just love the possible ambrosiacum, and the almost black third one is wonderful as well.  I'd grow them in a heartbeat, even if they did multiply healthily.  ;D

Narcissus cordubensis is adorable.  I do so love those smaller species types.

Great pics everyone.  8)
Cheers.

The photos are fantastic Arthur, I was wondering about your Merendera Soboliferum though.  Does it always flower with it's leaves?  The bulb that I have named that flowers on it's own, alot like a Colchicum.  Your Scilla Rosenii is amazing, did you grow it from seed?  I've never had any luck germinating it.

Both bulbs were bought from Leonid Bondarenko.

The Merendra bloomed before the leaves. but the flowers have lasted very well.

There are 2 more Scilla to flower

I have Colchicum soboliferum, (which I bought as Merendera sobolifera from Bob Brown at CGF), but it produces its leaves first, and they are virtually white.

What you are missing from the Muscari ambrosiacum, is the scent.  People pay fortunes for French perfumes, but they would be hard pressed to match this.

This is a great thread to cover everything other than the usual suspects.

When I bought Anenome eranthoides little did I know what would appear from the little rock hard tubers. I should have bought more! Does anyone know if it can grow outside?
