ALPINE OPEN DAY RHS GARDEN WISLEY –1st OCTOBER 2015
Join experts and enthusiastsfrom the world of alpines and rock garden plants at a joint
RHS, Alpine Garden Society (AGS) and Scottish Rock Garden Club (SRGC) open day
at RHS Garden Wisley on Thursday 1 October 2015.
Entrance to the event is free, although normal arrangements for access to the garden apply.
Talks, practical demonstrations, a photographic exhibition, and other activities will be
held at the Hillside Events Centre. There will also be plants sales at the Wisley Plant Centre and by other specialist alpine nurseries on site, an open session of the Joint Rock Garden Plant Committee, and guided tours of the Wisley Rock Garden and Alpine Departments.
A full programme is attached:

Sadly this date clashes with the SRGC Discussion Weekend at the other end of the country, as well as the Scotland's Gardens /RHS lectire event in Stirling so attendance from Scottish members will be limited though all SRGC members able to attend are urged to do so.

This looks to be a really exciting and inclusive day - a nice opportunity for those of us in the south-east! We will be taking plants. Look forward to it

Razvan Chisu is at the event - here is his pic of some of the plants heading for consideration by the Joint Rock Committee
For those wondering what on earth this mysterious "Joint Rock Committee" is, this link will help

A good day (apart from trying to get there on the M25!). The Hillside Centre was full with a steady stream of people coming in, and the Wisley team took groups around the Alpine Dept., including behind the scenes. A great opportunity to meet a whole number of interesting plants-people (including Razvan), and also for a look at alpines growing at The Botanics in Edinburgh, Cambridge Botanics, as well as Wisley, and these amazing plants presented for the Joint Rock Committee. Will look at the day in more detail in my Kent Diary in the next few days.

I see Nesta Jolliffe in your pictures, Jon - she spent the weekend with other members of her family at the SRGC Discussion Weekend in Grantown on Spey . John Mitchell had made a quick turn around from Wisley, too. Amazing the stamina of these folks!
Nice shots from you of Ian Robertson's lovely
Cyclamen graecum
subsp.
anatolicum
, which you tell us has been raised to species status as
Cyclamen maritimum.
(- Another change to get our heads round!) and congratulations to Ian Robertson on his success with the plant at Loughborough, too!
