Here is mine C. pulchellus alba, selected from seedlings of ZEPHYR. As you can see - perfectly match with true pulchellus. As I wrote before, under cultivation some features can change from year to year. So the best would be to use just wild observations, but question remain - how stable features are in wild? Never had occasion visit same locality in blooming time in different years. Crocus world too large for this, single exception - special needs.

For that reason i'm very happy with this collection of hadriaticus from Mt. Enos in Greece. Is has got a brown keel and a yellow(ish) flower. In the background you see a white flower of cartwrightianus 'Marcel' for comparison.

Yellow toned back of outer segments rarely occur in C. laevigatus and C. melantherus. It is quite stable feature and I even made some clonal selection.

The crocusses in my lawn are on their peak now, but unfortunately the weather has turned bad, so no more photos for the next days.

001 - Crocus speciosus Artabir from Augis, which is also in my opinion the true one. It has a wonderful blue and in combination with its veining its really unique.
013 - Crocus speciosus Aino, which I think is the true form collected on Crimea in the 80s. After a few days of flowering its blue slowly looses colour, but still the stems are strong enough not to fall down, which is unfortunately not the case for most of the trade speciosus forms.

Next is Crocus pulchellus from Chios Island. I searched there for Crocus biflorus although it is not recorded from Chios, but some years ago in Gothenburg was grown one sample from this Island but was lost before I saw it. All collected corms with annulate tunics turned C. pulchellus.
Then two pictures of Crocus vallicola - the first from Turkey, the second from Russian Caucasus (N faced slopes in W part of ridge). The Russian are not so good growers as Turkish, but with more prominent "tail" on top of flower segments. And as last is C. xantholaimos.

Janis, that pulchellus from Chios is very beautifull as well as the Caucasian vallicola! They are on my wishlist.

Ruben, your yellow toned hadriaticus is beautiful too!
I also remember the fabulous  yellow backed C. cambessedesii which Hans A. showed in post# 38 in this thread: http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=12424.30. That's high on my wish list!

Thanks everyone! Its a real beauty! Try to post another picture when 2 or 3 flowers are open. I will use my brush and hopefully i can get some yellow in some crosses.

Very nice pictures. I really love the cambessedesii and the nudiflorus 'Orla'. Here no sign yet of 'Orla'.
