Never been so embarrassed!! I kept throwing bulbs in to box I was handed at the MAAGS stand. Dandered around and bought here and there. Went back to pay at MAAGS ... £500!! Had to quickly decide what I really wanted from not

I expect the experience was quite "upsetting"  Emma!  Have fixed it!

Is that Ray Drew looking uncharacteristically dour?

They hold an auction an hour after the sale has started.  I just found this picture on my camera.
Almost in Scotland.

I found it strange that Jane Leeds and Wol & Sue were bidding for snowdrops

Think they were just bumping up the price to make the most for the ags

You can see the events programme of the Mid-Anglia AGS Group here:  http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/groups/Mid-Anglia/programme/ .  They get some good speakers, some of whom travel long distances.  Wim Boens spoke in January and SRGS's own Ian Young in March.  They manage to do this because of the funds raised from the Bulb Sale.  Actually, I should say 'we' because I joined the Group earlier this year.

In the auction I think sometimes people bid to push-up the price if they think an item seems to be going too cheaply but the risk of that is that you end-up buying it.  And there must be just a few snowdrops that the Leedses or the Staineses do not possess.

Almost in Scotland.

I would have thought the most modest thing to say was 'the group'.  Personally I always talk of the groups I belong to as they are not mine but belong to the membership as a whole.  Particularly pertinent I would suggest if one is a new member.

Sorry, David, I'm missing the point you are trying to make.  Since I was commenting on the Mid-Anglia AGS (and have been to their Bulb Sale possibly every year since 2012) I thought I should mention that I'm no longer a disinterested party.  No modesty or immodesty intended, just a statement of fact.
Almost in Scotland.

Doesn't your first word illustrate the point? :P
