Thanks for all the pics. Nice to see what's out down south.

Hi
My pictures of the event are on the AGS forum now, for those who like that sort of thing.  This is Ophrys speculum exhibited by Barry Tattersall.

Indeed.  BT showed 5 different Ophrys species; it was great to be able to compare them, and to have time to mess about taking macro shots of all of them.

It was great to make the hop again to Harlow - a great opportunity to see a lot of friends again.
The showbenches were indeed less full than in other years, but still a lot of good plants to admire.

The mild and humid winter was definitely to blame - I heard that Paul Ranson (one of the Dionysia guru's, also on this forum) lost over a 100 plants over the last few months...  :(  I hope Paul's collection recovers asap, his entries were sadly missed.

Better luck next time !

Horrible news about  Paul's losses.  Very hard to keep rot out of those huge cushion plants he grows at the best of times and in such weather  it must be impossible.  We'll all be hoping he can rebuild his  wonderful collection to be able to delight show visitors again in the future.

Good news that you were able to Channel hop. dear Luc!

Even more important than watching Omloop Het Nieuwsblad? Hope you were watching Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne today. I shall catch the highlights later tonight. 8)

Thanks for the kind comments/sympathy Luc and Maggi. Yes, it is true I've lost over 100 plants, mostly Dionysias although not all were of show size (never will be now). I've still got plenty left but these have flowered poorly and I know I'm not alone in that experience. Last autumn when the buds should have been forming was dull and those flowers which have opened have done so sequentially rather than in one flush because of the mild winter. Can but hope that some of the later flowering ones perform as temperatures over the past couple of weeks at around 7c and dry are ideal, albeit too late. Certainly won't be in the next two or three weeks.

I know David, it' s a dreadful choice - Omloop Het Nieuwsblad always collides with the Harlow show... it'll be the only one I miss this year though !  ;D (obviously, Kuurne was on my telly Sunday afternoon... finish is only 5 km from where I live !

Good news that you were able to Channel hop. dear Luc!

Thanks Maggi, yes, back to old habbits.  ;D ;D
