THE ROCK GARDEN-January 2016
« on: January 21, 2016, 03:48:42 PM »
My bulk supply of copies for distribution to advertisers arrived this morning so it won't be too long before your copy arrives through your letter box, or by download. Also included will be a bit of a bonus, or at least we hope you will regard it as a bonus!

I'll make my usual plea to do please support our advertisers wherever and whenever you can. A good spread of regulars in this edition, with some 'returners' as well and also a couple of new advertisers. Growwild Nursery will already be a familiar name to Forumists  ( http://www.growildnursery.co.uk/ ). If you are in holiday planning mode and Switzerland is in the offing then you could do much worse than plan to visit the Botanical Alpine Garden at Schynige Platte http://www.alpengarten.ch/en/ . After reading the article in The Rock Garden you won't be able to resist.

Journal in the post  to overseas members at the end of the week and to the UK next week, I believe.  I'll post a note when the  online version arrives and is  loaded for the E-subscription members.

We visited alpine garden at Schynige Platte last early June. It was spring in the garden with gentiana, ranunculus, heaps of pulsatilla  alpina in full bloom and a lot of other plants. It was a fantastic and unforgettable experience. The railroad there gives you a chance to be driven from summer to spring with a marvelous bonus of enjoying stunning views. The area around Interlaken (nearest city) does offer a lot of attractions. So both the garden and the area nearby is a must for everybody. I hope the article in the journal when I get it will bring back my wonderful memories

It's here too! I will be settling down to read an article or two when I retire to bed.

In the meantime, David, well done and thank you for compiling such a comprehensive and useful list of nurseries. Some favourites on there and some new to me, to which I will have to arrange a visit sometime. Patrick had never heard of Timpany (despite being just a stones throw from his home town)  ::) - so we'll pay them a visit in June!

Another excellent read; congratulations to contributers and the editorial/production team.

[Online members also get a peek into the future, with the November 2016 Seed Exchange list ;) ;D ;D  How's that for service? 8)]

Many thanks Matt, glad you found it useful. You must go to Timpany, Susan grows some lovely stuff.

I've seen the nursery list on her website - lots of lovely Primula for us! - and have resisted mail ordering only because we have a trip already booked. A delayed pleasure worth waiting for I'm sure.
