Fritillaria stenanthera
« on: February 07, 2016, 10:15:43 AM »
Seeing no point above the pot Budding Fritillaria stenanthera I bought last year at a plant fair, I dug the pot gently.
I discovered a sad result, the bulb was rotten, the ground was wet, but not too much. He was in the greenhouse. Is it a timid species? It froze two nights at -10 last month.

The damage may have happened because of a combination of the freezing and being  rather  too wet, Fred.  The soil needs to be  slightly moist - but too much water  before there is  good top growth is dangerous.  If the soil was  wet and then froze, that would be  a cause  of the rot.

Yes, perhaps this is it. In addition, no attention, I watered once a month in September, October, November and December before remembering that fritiliaires often prefer dry ...  ::)
