What's eating my narcissus?
« on: April 16, 2016, 05:27:30 PM »
This year a number of my narcissus have had their coronas eaten by something. I think it may be an insect after the nectar. Yesterday, an exchange seed N. bulbocodium graellsii flowered for the first time (sown in 2012). To-day it had been destroyed by something eating the corona. Any ideas as to what is doing it so that I can develop a defence strategy? My plants all grow open to the elements as I've yet to assemble an Access frame.

In my garden it is snails and slugs that eat the corona of daffodils.

I used to go out at night with a pair of old scissors and cut dozens of slugs in half.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your replies. I had thought it might be bumble bees but you've put me in the correct direction. Many thanks.
