don't think they particularly like my slightly acid dry sandy soil.  So I try to grow them in pots instead.  I'll have to get Beth Evans again I think.  And I also need George Baker - looks like a shopping list eh?
Christine,
They seed themselves all over my sandy acid soil. They make use of the moisture that accumulated in the winter and go dormant when the drought comes. If they do not like the soil or position  they would be more likely to dwindle than to go mush. That points at some pathogene - which seems to be rare. I take for granted that it did not drown in the winter due to poor drainage. Try some cheap ones in the garden but remember that they need early planting. If you find them in a supermarket in september they are probably dead.

Thanks, Gote.  I did get a job lot from Janis Ruskans of the Penza strain and planted these in the garden last year.  Most of them have come up this year, but I didn't put them where I planted my failure, so maybe that's right, to put them into a sandy, but sunny area.  The area I had my Beth Evans was quite stoney and shady, but also the only damp-ish place in the garden (there is a slow leak from the pond that keeps it a bit damper).  All the Penza's that have surfaced so far have been ok, but NOTHING like the picture Maggi showed us of hers :'(

Brilliant things. As well as the pinks and reds, the deep purple is exciting and so is the delightful C. malkensis. :) I only have a muddy mauve, the only one which has been available here. The few seeds it has had were collectable by taking the pods while they are still green and unopened. A little squeeze will show the ripe black seeds inside, rather like those of Dicentra.

Common solida forms:

'George Baker' (with background contrast kindly provided by our collie X Misty 8)
This seems less red than several others posted but I understand that its colour intensity increases with cold.

Penza strain, from Janis

'Beth Evans', an embarrassingly puny specimen compared to Maggi's :-[ ;D

Recovering from a very dry spring / summer 2008, Corydalis henrikii.
Hristo passed away, after a long illness, on 11th November 2018. His support of SRGC was  much appreciated.

For those interested I attach my final version of a very limited section leonticoides flower ID pane, also includes schanganinii ssp schanganinii which is of course section corydalis. Essentially these are the species that grow under cover here. More for my use I guess so if the labels go missing I can work out which plant is which. May do this for corydalis out in the open, though sadly they are pretty much all in recovery after having a rather dry growing season last year.  :'(

I'm not really familiar with Corydalis, but a lot of C. solida are flowering in my wood,

as well as C. ornata in the bulb frame, pale form.
