Flash floods in London yesterday. No flooding here in East Kent but we had a dramatic thunderstorm last night which knocked out our broadband router. Fixed it this morning, fortunately it was only the power adaptor.

Germany is a bit prone to floods, as many rivers no longer can overflow without doing damage.  That said, I had drained most of my pond to do a cleaning and in the last ten days, it is not only full again, but overflowing into the already saturated garden.  That's about 1 meter of rain in a week!  The Rhein is high, but not over its banks.  We do have a few flood plains just South of Cologne.

Clearly, our weather patterns have changed and will continue to do so.  We are forced to adapt...on all levels.  There is little else the individual can do.  Invest in appropriate clothing.  Pork-bellies down...Wellies are up.

It has rained here only once since 1st May. Today there are storm clouds over the southern uplands, but not a drop here by the coast. The meconopsis are not happy....

I was watering the garden from 21:30 to 22:30.  The meconopsis are growing and flowering well but I have to keep a close eye on the seedlings.  Now out for my evening slug/snail hunt !

The weather has one adventage:
We needn't pay a fee for the public swimming pool.
We can use our basement.  :P

Don't worry, we have a strong pump. ;D

How things change !  We went to Scone on Saturday for the Potfest show.  The temp was 9°C and damp.  By the time we reached Branklyn it had risen a few degrees and had been raining, however the garden was looking wonderful with the Meconopsis, Nomocharis and orchids in full flower.  By the time we got home at 20:30, it was bone dry and 15°C so I had still to water the garden.

Now whole Bavaria is drowning.
But I bet. In July we will get a 6-weeks-drought with temperatures nearly at 40°C. :-X

Hi Tom,

Garden was getting too dry but now it's been raining for two days and some roads in the area are closed because of flooding.  I think it's wet enough now.  Will someone please turn off the tap.
