Looking for a book about Flora of Europe
« on: June 12, 2016, 11:23:21 AM »
I have a question. I need an english book for a friend in Japan.
Does anybody know a good book with photographs about the wild plants in Europe/ Flora of Europe?
There should be the latin names and some descriptions about the difference from other species.
The book should contain flowers, trees, ferns... and so on - any plants and every plants.
Thank you.

I do not think that such a book exists.  it would have to be enormous in size to cover all plants from the Caucasus westwards to the UK and from the Tundra to the Mediterranean.
If you look on AMAZON there are many books covering flowers, shrubs, trees etc. from Europe. This would be the best option although most titles would not list everything in the particular group.

Yes, I couldn't find such a book on Amazon either.
So I'm looking for the best compromise.
Good photos, latin names, some description of the most flowers, ferns, trees of middle Europe.
Otherwise I will post my friend a list with books for flowers and one for trees and....

There's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flora_Europaea. Five volumes or now on CD apparently.

Without investing in a copy of the full Flora Europaea (even if you were able to obtain a copy) I doubt you would find a comparable publication anywhere.

Thank you.
I think I will suggest my friend some cheaper books with photos.
Than he can decide which ones he want. :)
