So where in Britain do you buy those pens?
just google them - there is a guy who does fly fishing things who stocks them- I think the solvent in the is banned in the EU

just don't press on (its a real gentle glide) and have a pot of thinners to clean the tip afterwards - each pen will do about 10,000 labels

Always worth asking the Forum, Anne!!
I did! I asked about the ones that were being sold at the Discussion weekend, which were the same I think, but no-one seemed to know. Never mind, I will need more.

Back then I thought I told you to contact Glassford - who still had some - he's hoping a new volunteer will be found to take them on now.

you are not kidding what a rip off they are about $3-5 in the USA - I was given a box of 12 which a friend had received for testing and last one I bought was from a fly fishing guy

these will do the same job - but I must stress how delicate you must be when writing on labels with these - just glide don't press on
I always have a small pot of thinners and piece of kitchen roll when I am doing labels - always write on the gloss side of the label

Blue pen on orange label I use for stock plants - they are almost 3D - wife also then knows which ones to keep away from.............

About plastic labels:
Why not do your bit for nature and recycle plastic containers into labels.Out a 20 l container your can cut a least 150 labels
And  when I have no more I do some beachcombing specially after a winter storm. The supply always exceeds the demand!!!
Or do as suggested by the people of beechgrove : cut old plastic pots and use white paint.
Some smaller containers are made of very thick plastic.Although a bit more difficult to cut those can be easily engraved and will last for a very long time

Interesting discussion. The best advice seems to be the Wilkinsons suggestion. The Wells and Winter labels are fairly expensive and rather short, the Anglo-Scottish outrageously expensive and although I have sympathy for the recycling option we need something that looks more professional and is not time-consuming. OK for small scale growing and ones own use but as we are selling a couple of thousand plants a year at Plant Fairs we need something that is easily read, looks purposeful and is quick and simple.

I have to disagree about the brittleness. Labels bought in 1995 are still flexible - labels bought in 2015 are already brittle and snapping far too often.

But I will explore Wilko.

I find    Stabilo Write-4-all Permanent Marker Pen Waterproof 0.7mm Line Black Ref 156-46 [Pack of 10] to be best for writing on the fantastic labels from Scotland

I discovered the labels at my first Discussion Weekend in 2010 and have used them ever since.  They can be bought in various colours and this makes genus identification simple at a glance when confronted with hundreds of pots.

I have just bought 2 packs of the pens from amazon.  As a Prime member they willbe delivered tomorrow at a cost of  £16.40 - not bad for 20 pens.  Will probably give a pack to a friend.

Our largest local Wilko had no plant labels at all. Have they stopped stocking them or is this just a particular branch ?
Still hunting for  decent labels at a sensible price !

The ebay ones mentioned above have arrived. They look OK and have a 'linen' type texture on one side. They take my labelling pencil OK and are flexible. They are not the same as the Scottish ones though. If anyone can bring me some from the Discussion Weekend, I would be very grateful, as I can't get there this year  :-[

Meyer in Germany sell label (cutted or by roll) 7€/1000ex 8x1.2cm, 13€ for 10x1.2cm, etc.
A roll is 2500 labels, cutted labels are sold per multiple of 1000

i don't want to make any advertise but they're really cheap compared to a lot of seller and can ship in whole Europe
