In my garden it is not the cats that damage plants, it is what they leave.

Ian has made a similar  attempt to keep the mice out of one of our sand  beds.  Idea is that it will be too uncomfortable for them to dig up the bulbs. Oddly enough, the visiting cats  have not bothered much with this  bed - though it may be tht it  was such a good  hunting spot they avoided using it s a latrine for that reason. Either that or the cats are much more bothered  by the proximity of the Small White terriers than the mice are!

Here we have super-sized echidnas - porcupine! And they love bulbs of all descriptions
