Hi Fred,
   I suspect the problem you have with your Lilium name is because the town it is named after is in China! I have seen both spellings (Lichiang and Lijiang) on maps of the area. I may be wrong, but I think 'ch' is the older attempt at rendering the phonetic sound, so I guess the plant will first have been published in the West with that spelling.

Further to my question about the better choice, frost free greenhouse or coldframe, for my DH seeds. The seeds were kept in the  coldframe throughout winter, with a double layer of fleece when it got down to an unusually low -10 °C. It is now unusually warm (15 °C) and sunny, and there are first leaves popping up all over. Mainly from the martagons, but there is a solitary, very small one from the kesselringianum.

Just checked my Immediate Hypogeal Cool seed pots, which were planted in February. There was no signs of life last week, and it is getting warm (15 °C in my 'cool' spot), so I assumed that I'd have to wait until next spring. Had a very pleasant surprise to find that L. kelloggii, pardalinum ssp. pitkinense, rubescens and a (pardalinum x parryi) x (pardalinum x parryi) cross have started to germinate (only a single seedling in some cases, but its a start). Still waiting for L. columbianum, occidentale and washingtonianum.

The first lily to flower this year in my garden is Lilium sachalinense. It is in a shady sheltered spot, but is managing to get through the competition, chiefly  Lamprocapnos spectabilis alba.

Hi Rimmer,

Did you remove the anthers, or do they grow naturally like that?

Seed grown as Lilium nanum, but imaybe it is a hybrid.  Or Lilium oxypetalum?
