Colorful fruits of scilla haemorrhoidalis

I never understood the origin of the name but maybe it is due to the look of the fruits

Possibly anti-hemorrhoids virtues  ;D

Scilla peruviana survives outside near my house (with basement) foundation in Michigan and survived  -30C under snow cover.

How near to the house?

How near to the house?

I have a cluster of these bulbs Within 30 cm of the block wall.
The plants furthest out do as well as the ones closet to the house.
They all have emerged considerable due to the premature warm weather, but 10F (-12C) is expected for the next few nights with no snow cover, so a fish box with lot of dry leaves will go top

In 2014 I bought a Scilla peruviana in full flower and planted it in my garden. I never took special care of it, no shelter, just like all other bulb plants in this bed. It was a plant with one flowering stem.
In 2015 there were only leaves in several tufts, the bulb seemed to have divided.
In 2016 flowers showed in June.

This year we had a winter with temperatures down to -16°C. There was no shelter for the peruviana. That's the actual situation:

In my opinion a dry place in summer is more important than the winter temperatures.

Here are two Scilla species -
Scilla (Fessia) greilhuberi survived the recent winter surprisingly and looked much
better than cultivated inside.
Some notes concerning this and other species could be found in a paper by Franz Speta -

http://www.zobodat.at/pdf/NKJB_25_0019-0198.pdf - (in German).
Picture no. 3 shows Scilla messanensis.
