Roscoea 2017

I thought there was already a Roscoea thread but can't find it.
I have 2 lots of Roscoea humeana grown from seed as alba. I have three flowered from 2010 and all are white. Two have flowered from 2013 and neither of them is white. I'm not too bothered as I didn't have the pink humeana before .
I'd forgotten I planted a pink humeana outside. It was the first to flower, even earlier than those in pots.

The seed raised Roscoea humeana alba have smaller flowers and narrower petals than the one I bought from Hartside. The Hartside one flowers before the leaves have developed so is quite short when flowering

Roscoea 'Harvington Evening Star' does really well in a pot and outside
Roscoea 'Monique' does quite well in a pot but is not looking so good in the ground.

A new one from Hartside this year Roscoea 'Harvington Hybrid' a really good dark red and later to flower than the others I have
I have found Roscoea 'Red Gurkha' a bit disappointing as the flowers do not clear the leaves when they open. I am not sure if it is going to flower this year but the foliage is good

Wow, Roma,
they look great - not a genus I've tried up here, though others in our local group grow them - must look out for seeds on the next Seedex
cheers

There have been some roscoeas shown in various other threads lately but only dedicated one was this one -
http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=15594.0
- about hybridising.
The broad-flowered form of Roscoaea humeana alba is one on my
all-time
favourite flowers. Just gorgeous.

Does anybody ever get seed set on Roscoea Red Gurkha (or other red cultivars) , to the point of ripeness/harvest? I would be willing to purchase should there be some on offer. I am slowly assembling several Roscoeas here, all grown from seed as none are available in the local nurseries.
Maggi, that wide petaled form of Roscoea humeana alba sounds delightful.

We have had good success with Roscoeas both at Kerrachar and here in Sheffield. Haven't tried 'Red Gurkha' here and never tried collecting seed whilst we were in Scotland. In our cierrent gerden Roscoea cautleyoides self-seeds freely and we have been able to pot up seedlings for future plant sales in Sheffield Botanic Gardens. Other species haven't self-seeded but we have raised seedlings of humeana, purpurea and tibetica. It will be interesting to see how popular they are.
