Paramongaia

Flowering now in the warm section of the greenhouse - Paramongaia weberbaueri. It is like a huge daffodil, flowers are probably about 20cm across though I haven't measured.

Fabulous! I've flowered the summer growing Paramongaia (which I had from Alex's dad), but have never managed to coax my winter-grower into bloom ~ unfortunately, the two plants sit side by side on the kitchen windowsill & growth on the winter-grower seems to precipitate the summer-grower also breaking into growth a week or two later & both are now in full leaf at this, the most sunless part of the whole year....

Yes, I can't claim too much credit here as I got it some months back from my Dad, who grows quite a few of them as Malcolm says. I don't think he does anything very special for them other than keep them in a 15C minimum greenhouse all year round, and they bloom well for him, but maybe they get a bit more seasonal variation in temperature there than they would on a kitchen windowsill.

So nice, I would like to see it in real, the flower seems enormous and normal at the same time !

Now that I grow Pamianthe peruviana (thanks Hans), I would like to have a try with Paramongaia. If someone have some few seeds to offer (sell), it would be very kind  (I know that seeds of Paramongaia are rare but it don't cost to ask  ) I already saw some  offer of offset but they are too expensive.

Sorry to re-enliven this thread...... but I was wondering what we know about the plant's temperature requirements over winter?

I keep it on the kitchen windowsill ~ warmest & sunniest room in the house, also the most humid (I do a lot of cooking)...

Thanks - yes, much that I have read about it suggests people give it around a 10C to 12C min over winter.... I was just wondering why this is the case, as I think that the area it comes from drops substantially colder. Maybe I'm wrong, and clearly the bulbs are worth so much money that people maybe don't want to risk experimenting!

I find that the leaves flop if gets over 60F (15C) in winter. But is fine at 45-50F (7-10C)
Although i have read that seed pods abort below 50F (10C).  Seeds on my plant have always aborted even with pollen from others’ plants, regardless of temp.
