Spring on Kyklades ( part 2 )
« on: April 05, 2008, 03:10:02 PM »
Jassas  :)

Now here we reach Naxos town with the ship - our second destination .

First we saw the "Portara" - this is the place where Theseus leave Adriane ....
this is the rest of a temple -it is more than 2000 years old - it is pur marble !

Naxos is famous for his marble -and here we could see that whole mountains build up for it

by one of our fist walkings we found : Gynandiris

on this island are three big statues -  so called : "Kouros"

here are two ( more than 2500 years old ) -they are broken by working or transport

in this area ( terra rossa ) grows a lot of wonderful plants :

forms of Orchis anatolica

Cistus

Lavendula stoechas

and in a garden : Chasmanthe ( thanks Alberto + Michael )

Wonderful pictures Hans; thanks for sharing them.

Your 'papaver related' and first 'unknown' look like Glaucium flavum and Chrysanthemum coronarium respectively.

I was tired yesterday but I was greatly revived by these happy photos of Hans and Barbara's trip...the flowers made me glad and the photo of Barbara nearly being blown off the hill by the chapel ( in part one....  http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1603.0)
made me smile....but only because I know she is safe.....Hans would not be enjoying the cycling on TV is any harm had come to his wife!

Thank you, Hans. 8)

(By the way, there is better (British Eurosport )TV coverage of the cycling tonight, late on TV, more than the 17 km we had earlier! I will see more then!)
