The first Rhodophiala for us is one of the seedlings raised from crossing the orange-red form and the blood-red form of Rhodophiala bifida. We got the first from Paul Tyerman as I hoped it was a different clone to ours as we'd not been able to set seed on it. Unfortunately it appeared to be the same as we still couldn't get any seed. Josie in Leongatha brought a stem of the second to one of our meetings and she kindly gave it to me to try crossing it with Paul's - success!
Sown in June 2013 and planted out on 31-05-2015.
It appears to be closer in colour to Josie's but probably not as dark.
There are a few more stems emerging

In 2011 forumist Santiago in Argentina sent me seed of a pink form of Rhodophiala bifida which flowered for the first time last year in late March.
It has flowered earlier this year and coincides with the red form above
The two forms have now been crossed

There are a few more stems emerging

More are now in bloom -  at least 11 of the seedlings look like they will flower
They look very similar to each other and just slightly lighter than the pollen parent

Those seedlings are turning out very well - great colours.

the colour seems quite uniform - Will was hoping for more variety!
I've crossed it with the pink form so that might provide some different shades
I've also back-crossed it with the "ox-blood" red form - strangely, the orange-red form is not flowering yet

The only different I've noticed with the seedlings is that some have green ovaries and some have dark ovaries

Rhodophiala chilensis. First 2 snaps from Early AM hours, last 2 snaps from same day in hot afternoon. This summer grower/bloomer seems to do ok here.

Rhodophiala montana from spare Chilaeflora seed thanks to Ashley.  Sown autumn 2015 so a bit less than 3 years to flower.  Flowers are almost half the size of my other montanas.

Here is a self from seed grown Rhodophiala araucana from me

I have to confess I have really problems with  this plants in my climate ...so I have killed many of them in last years ( exept R.bifida )
My idea is here is to hot for them in summer ...

A bit of a shock this afternoon as i was  watering in the greenhouse.  This large flower seems to have appear from nowhere.  Was it the rain and humidity outdoors 2 nights ago that sparked the flowering of a few Rhodophialas? 

The label says Rhodophiala hybrid  AGS16-4364, 2 years and a few months to flower.  Certainly a good size by comparison.  The leaves look like a Rhodophiala but is it indeed a Rhodophiala?  Thoughts?  It's Habranthus robustus.

One of the very few societal seed lots that is in fact not a Habranthus - tubispathus that is!  Pleased as punch. But it's Habranthus robustus.
