From Cliff Booker :

"Recently returned from an utterly magnificent Alpine Garden Society National East Lancashire Show at Whitworth that attracted hundreds of visitors who enjoyed benches bursting with floral excellence, rarity and colour. Many thanks to the 60+ exhibitors who travelled from as far away as Oxfordshire, Northumberland and Essex to flood the benches with well over 600 beautiful plants; thanks to the nurseries who sold exceptional species to eager buyers; thanks to the judges, stewards and helpers who worked so hard to put on such an amazing event; special thanks to all our many visitors who all seemed to enjoy such a special day ... but more than any other, our undying thanks and congratulations to our tireless Show Secretary; Carol Kellett who has served the AGS (and the East Lancs Group) in this capacity for many years and has established the East Lancs Show as one of the friendliest, well organised and unmissable shows on the circuit.
Sadly, Carol has decided that this will be her final year in charge of the show and the Society (and Group) must now find an able successor to carry on her wonderful work! A very difficult task.

May we add our very best wishes to Carol on her well-deserved retirement but, of course, we hope that we can still welcome her help, advice and presence at future events for many years to come.

A great day, a wonderful show and a truly memorable event. Finally, congratulations to all our trophy, medal and prize winners, especially Ian Kidman who scooped the Farrer Medal for the best exhibit in the show with his remarkable Cassiope lycopodioides 'Beatrice Lilley'.

We in the SRGC forum are delighted to add our  congratulations and best wishes to the star that is Carol Kellett on her retirement from the Show.

Thought it was time I stirred into action with some pictures. Was pretty certainly the best AGS Show so far this year with a wonderful display of a wide range of plants in tip top condition...indeed I heard one official say to some judges well before staging was complete that he had seen so many Farrer possibilities he thought judging time would need extending! Will do my usual meander through the show, will try to show the pictures in the way suggested by Maggi to save me quite a bit of time on the resize front.

The weather has been very changeable lately - often very nippy - I think this  is a protective warming  measure ! ( Plus a few of us told him it suited him!!)  :-* :-*

Certainly looks like a  fantastic show - a lot of big plants on those benches - the weight must have been quite something! Super photos, George - easier to do this way, isn't it?
