A first for me here in South Australia and the first oncocyclus of 2018, Iris atropurpurea flowered today. There are two more buds coming on the plant. The seed was from David Shahak, via Pat Toolan.

Today one of my Iris shelkownikowii flowered, a little bit demented, fused petals and sepals but a flower all the same. Seed was from Otto in 2016, so I reckon that's not bad going in two years.

In 2014 I discovered oncocyclus Irises when I saw a picture of I. acutiloba ssp. lineolata. I fell in love with the plant in the image and was determined to try to grow it. It turned out to be a lot more difficult than I could have imagined! Sourcing seed was the first obstacle. I contacted Otto Fauser and he had some seed and was kind enough to share some with me! Yesterday my dream came true, four years and a lot of water under the bridge.

Looks real good Jamus. At least one more to come I see.  I've had paradoxa seedlings bloom at
 2 year old and the same with acutiloba seeds. You should see acutiloba ssp. acutiloba and grossheimi.

seems that I missed very nice plants.. my fault.. didn't take time to come here (Don't hurt me Maggy  ;D )
sowing season starting here now.. lot of work but always nice to see first leaves sprouting !

Do you cut the seeds to accelerate germination or do you have any other tricks to prevent a long wait?
