Incarvillea Nyoto Sama
« on: May 28, 2018, 01:51:29 PM »
In 2016 I sowed seeds of Incarvillea Nyoto Sama. Only two plants were raised and both flowered for the first time this year. They are still in pots on the nursery benches alongside other Incarvilleas. The seed was distributed as I. himalatense which is also the name used by the RHS. However, several other information sources list I. mairei 'Nyoto Sama'. As it happens, the Nyoto Sama was next to plants of I. zhongdianensis which flowered shortly afterwards. There was a subtle colour difference (Nyoto Sama had a slightly more bluish purple colour and, perhaps, a slightly more prominent white throat) but the leaves looked identical and the flower differences were marginal. Although some incarvilleas are really distinctive {arguta (diffusa), olgae, emodi} there are a number which I find really difficult to separate and this one is certainly confusing. Can anyone help ?
